***Updated Information***

Just days after another excellent update from the hardworking staff of FireKragthorpeNow, Tom Jurich expanded on comments he made in last month's edition of Pravda.  At a Cardinal Caravan stop in Northern Kentucky, Jurich resumed his deceitful, yet failed effort to pin the blame for Steve Kragthorpe's losing on anyone but his phenomenal coach.  Speaking before an unhappy crowd, Jurich said, "He (Petrino) won and that masked a lot of the problems, and that's on me."

After trashing the coach who won 41 of 50 games, Tom Jurich turned his attention to Steve Kragthorpe.  "Steve can coach.  Look what he inherited at Tulsa (a 2-21 record the two years before being hired as head coach in 2003) and look at what he did (posting a 29-22 record and going to three bowl games in four seasons).  What we needed to do is rebuild the infrastructure of the program in recruiting and he's doing that."  I guess no one passed along our recruiting breakdown to Jurich!

While we've heard the same ridiculous defenses of Steve Kragthorpe for the last two years, Tom Jurich finished his discussion on Kragthorpe with several ominous quotes.  "To me it's not a make or break season, it's a season that's important and I want to see progress."  Sadly, Jurich didn't give his definition of progress, but he did make one of the most frightening comments we've heard in a long time.  "The only one he (Kragthorpe) needs to satisfy is me."  In other words, screw the fans!

The Turtleneck Speaks 5/24/2009

After a disastrous recruiting haul and the scapegoating of Jeff Brohm, the hard working staff of FireKragthorpeNow decided to take a break from the Steve Kragthorpe saga.  Several mental health professionals advised us that continued discussions about the coach could be detrimental to our health.  Under doctors orders, we decided to step away from the gloom and despair of the faltering football program and enjoy the great season Rick Pitino and the basketball Cards were having.  Unfortunately, Michigan State found a way to ruin that as well.  Karen Sypher didn't help things either.

Although FireKragthorpeNow has tried to avoid the continuing football debacle, several events demanded we come out of our self imposed hibernation.  Most importantly, the nation's best athletic director offered some comments on his phenomenal football coach.  In the latest edition of Pravda, Tom Jurich was asked if he had any benchmarks he'd like to see.  He answered, "No, I really don't.  I just want to improve.  I know sometimes that doesn't show up in records, but I'll be able to tell.  I'm very impressed with the coaching staff right now, though.  Very impressed."  Yikes!

While the comments of Tom Jurich were bad enough, we also discovered we had been ferociously attacked by someone named Jay Skipworth.  In an internet article written last month, he accused us of writing nothing but banter and drivel.  He wrote this just after saying Steve Kragthorpe's coaching skills were top notch and he inherited a tough situation at Louisville.  Sorry, Mr. Skipworth.  Being named CEO of GM is a tough situation.  Inheriting 17 starters off an Orange Bowl winning team is not.  By the way Jay, how impressive were Steve Kragthorpe's coaching skills when he gave up 49 points to Rutgers in just one half of football?
